Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Please join us for the inaugural meeting of the DEI Committee.  We look forward to input from all TLA members on what they want to see from the DEI committee, and how we can serve the TLA membership. We will have a short presentation regarding microaggression, general defined as, “the everyday verbal, non-verbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership.”

ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) and their Impact on Litigation - CLE Credit

Freight Claims Committee -- The Ultimate Defenses – Act of Act and Public Enemy - CLE Credit
This Breakout Session of the Freight Claims Committee will review the Act of God Defense generally, both in the context of the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act and the Carmack  Amendment.  We will also touch upon issues relating to War Risk Insurance. The current international situation with the war in Ukraine will be considered.

John Lane will discuss “Lessons from Maritime Arbitration: a case study” using the Supreme Court’s 2010 landmark decision in Stolt-Nielsen S.A. v. Animal Feeds Int’l Corp. to demonstrate arbitration issues including manifest disregard of the law, class arbitration claims, and arbitrators’ misconduct in exceeding their powers, in a maritime anti-trust setting.
